Dibutyl phthalate is the most commonly used plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, which can make the products have good flexibility. However, it has relatively high volatility and water extractability, thus having poor durability.  Its stability, flexural resistance, adhesion and water resistance are all superior to those of other plasticizers. Dibutyl phthalate can also be used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl acetate, alkyd resin, ethyl cellulose, chloroprene rubber and nitrile rubber.
